I’m at that age where trying “new things” includes much less risk than when I was younger. Writing poetry has been one of those things I have been working with and practicing. This is some lines I wrote recently over a few weeks as I reflected on my own journey.
In one’s life there are two paths
One traversed by foot
The other by sight
And both create what we call life
Measured markers guide the way
Weeks… months.. years
Decades … converged
An inner measure, then emerged
Time, the person fails to make
Emotions displaced
Experiences to build
This life remembered was distilled
Friendships and talks and long easy walks
Novels and scripture ..
The arts and drink …
Changed the path before the brink
Plane flights and car rides through other towns
Strangers now friends
Thoughts and words shared
The final silhouette now bared
The lesson learned not too late for me
The one I implore
The younger to heed
A lifelong learner is one who leads
